A heated conflict arises in Cimarron when the ever-popular cavalryman, Sgt. Clayton Tyce, is found drinking in a Cimarron bar when he was supposed to be in charge of an Army patrol. When confronted on the matter, he is offered the choice of an Army discharge or facing a court martial.
